Octavius Infrastructure is a leading civil engineering organization dedicated to delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK. Our rail business is experiencing significant growth with key contract awards in the Southern region, focusing on Electrification and Plant Renewals.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contractors Engineering Manager to join our expanding team. This role will provide comprehensive support to our Engineering Delivery Managers, contributing to the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist Engineering Delivery Managers with project support activities.
  • Develop and maintain Engineering Management Plans for specific programmes.
  • Ensure the utilization of competent engineering resources, both in-house and external.
  • Manage the delivery of in-house and subcontract designs, including design consultants.
  • Support project teams in risk management, commercial issues, and compliance processes.
  • Assist in the appointment of design/engineering roles as required.
  • Review and advise on design briefs, structural investigations, surveys, and monitoring.
  • Identify and manage project interfaces, hazards, and temporary conditions.
  • Provide designer liaison, including design review meetings and progressive assurance.
  • Identify stakeholder and discipline interfaces and reduce unnecessary risks.
  • Participate in value engineering meetings and evaluate added value options.
  • Offer constructability advice to permanent works and temporary works designers.
  • Assist in the development of design programmes and optimize construction activities.
  • Provide technical support to construction delivery teams and propose solutions.
  • Lead the development and implementation of temporary works.
  • Ensure effective processes for the development of assurance documentation.
  • Mentor engineers, students, and graduates to promote professional development.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across the business, particularly in design and engineering.

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in the delivery of Rail Electrification & Plant engineering projects. Your previous/background experience will have seen you progressed via a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
  • In-depth knowledge of construction techniques and processes across Rail electrification.
  • Specific knowledge around implementation and/or design of temporary works solutions.
  • Practical and working knowledge of the procedures associated with the delivery of infrastructure works to meet the needs of key Clients such as Network Rail, TfL or other major rail operators.
  • A strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations.
