Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paramedic to join our team at Long Furlong Medical Centre. As a Paramedic Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and working autonomously within the community at an advanced level of practice.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Assess and triage patients, including same-day triage, and provide sound judgements in the absence of full information.
  2. Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to other community or voluntary services.
  3. Perform specialist health checks and reviews, including ECGs and other investigations as required.
  4. Communicate effectively with colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to meetings as required.
  5. Collaborate with other members of the practice, including doctors, nurses, and other AHPs, and accept referrals and refer to them for specialist care.
  6. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous health records and ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation.
  7. Prescribe, issue, and review medications as appropriate, following policy, patient group directives, NICE guidelines, and local clinical guidelines.
  8. Work with patients to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
  9. Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication, including medication regimens, side effects, and interactions.
  10. Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with undifferentiated diagnoses and complex needs.
  11. Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly.
  12. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist patients in complex, urgent, or emergency situations.
  13. Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating drug- and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan.
  14. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care.
Person Specification

Qualifications

  • BSc in a training programme approved by the College of Paramedics.
  • Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Framework for Higher Education Qualification (FHEQ) Level 7.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Non-medical prescribing qualification.
  • Pre-reg MSc in a training programme approved by the College of Paramedics.

Experience

  • Experience in managing a designated caseload.
  • Ability to write comprehensive clinical notes, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Working knowledge of IT systems.

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to evidence a sound understanding of the NHS principles and values.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex/often incomplete information and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
