AWE presents a remarkable opportunity for an Applied Science Technician to become a vital member of our Technology Development Group, contributing significantly to our mission of delivering exceptional results for our clients.


Role Overview:
As part of our Plasma Diagnostic Support Team, you will engage in a diverse array of scheduled and preventive maintenance tasks on diagnostic equipment, supporting the ORION laser facility. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the assembly and evaluation of custom hardware, as well as collaborating with engineers and scientists during laboratory experiments.


Location:
Our facility is conveniently situated with complimentary onsite parking.


Compensation:
Salary ranges from £24,000 to £26,000 annually, contingent upon your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role, along with specific allowances related to the position.


About ORION:
ORION is the largest and most powerful laser system and experimental facility for high-energy density physics in the UK, capable of replicating conditions akin to those found in the sun's core through its high-power laser beamlines.


Daily Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:

  • Utilize your skills in a safe and effective manner, adhering to task instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure laboratory environment.


Qualifications:
We seek candidates with a recognized relevant qualification such as City & Guilds, BTEC Level 2, or equivalent experience in a STEM discipline (computing, science, engineering, physics). Practical skills in mechanical, electronic, or related fields are essential.


Key Skills:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with testing and measuring equipment.
  • Competence in maintaining and repairing electronic/electrical systems at a modular level.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or workshop setting.
