Position Overview

The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Patient Transport Support Assistants. This role is essential in delivering compassionate care and assistance to patients during their non-emergency transport to medical appointments.

Successful candidates will be tasked with the safe and respectful transportation of patients, ensuring they receive the necessary support throughout their journey. This includes providing aid to those who may be feeling unwell or require additional assistance.

A valid UK driving licence is required, with a maximum of 3 endorsement points (consideration may be given for exceptional cases with up to 6 points).

Shift Details

Shifts are available in 8 or 10-hour formats, inclusive of a 30-minute meal break, and are scheduled over 4 or 5 days for full-time positions. Our Patient Transport Service operates 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays, with operational hours from early morning until late at night.

Key Responsibilities

As a Patient Transport Support Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating the safe transport of patients, ensuring they can access vehicles with ease.
  • Providing necessary support for patients with mobility challenges, including the use of wheelchairs in various environments.
  • Demonstrating empathy, care, and respect for all patients, ensuring their comfort and safety during transport.
  • Utilizing appropriate skills and equipment in accordance with your training and competency levels.

Candidates who progress through the application process will undergo driving assessments, with scheduling available during weekdays. Successful applicants will also complete pre-employment checks and a comprehensive training program.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to accurately complete documentation.
  • Capacity to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum level 1 literacy and numeracy standards or relevant experience in a similar capacity.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence (maximum of 3 endorsement points, with exceptions considered).

Desirable Attributes

  • GCSE standard education or equivalent vocational qualifications.
  • Experience in caring roles or volunteer work.
  • First Aid training from recognized organizations.
