Position Overview

This recruitment is focused on roles available in the Cambridge and Peterborough regions.

Induction Program for Nurse Practitioners:

  • Three-week in-person orientation (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM)
  • Two weeks of hands-on training with professional mentorship (totaling 75 hours, including various shifts)
  • Additional three weeks of in-person training.
  • Followed by two weeks of guided practical experience.
  • An eight-week integration phase, which includes Driver Training.
  • Achieve Module 5 competency while functioning as a clinician (under supervision).

Please note that while part-time positions are available, full-time availability is essential during the induction period.

Key Responsibilities

After an initial transition period with our educational teams, Clinical Practitioners will assist in delivering our frontline services alongside Paramedics and other pre-hospital healthcare professionals. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Taking responsibility for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, administration of medications, and managing patient discharges and referrals in urgent, emergency, critical, or out-of-hospital environments.
  • Providing effective clinical leadership, development, and mentorship to operational staff, including newly qualified paramedics and students, to ensure high-quality patient-centered care.
  • Contributing to the establishment of a cohesive approach to the provision of unscheduled and out-of-hours care, engaging all relevant stakeholders, including health and social care organizations.

Working on an ambulance presents a unique work environment. You will navigate a variety of settings, both urban and rural, managing cases from birth to end-of-life care, as well as chronic conditions and critical emergencies.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • Nurse registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • Possess a Full UK manual driving license for at least 12 months (up to 3 penalty points may be considered depending on the point code).
  • C1 category license to be obtained within six months of joining.
  • Mentorship qualification or willingness to obtain within the first year.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Pediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) or equivalent certification.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Ability to maintain clinical and other records to a high standard.
  • Capability to lead a team and manage emergency situations effectively.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse range of individuals in a customer or patient-facing role.
  • Significant post-registration experience in acute settings, emergency departments, or critical care; or relevant experience in settings requiring autonomous clinical decision-making.
  • Experience performing invasive procedures such as Intramuscular (IM) injections and Intravenous (IV) cannulation.
  • Experience in developing complex patient care plans.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience managing patient medication needs using patient group directives (PGDs).

Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving license with a minimum of one year of driving experience (a maximum of three penalty points for minor offenses is acceptable).
