Do you possess a solid understanding of child and adolescent development, along with relevant experience in a supportive role? If so, the position of Lead Residential Care Specialist at our organization may be an excellent fit for you.
This facility accommodates 24 young individuals aged 10 to 18, who are referred to us through legal proceedings, placed on remand, or require secure accommodation for their safety or the safety of others. In this role, you will oversee a team of care professionals who play a crucial part in the daily lives and future prospects of these young individuals, many of whom have complex needs and exhibit challenging behaviors.

Position Overview

As a Lead Residential Care Specialist, you will serve as the primary practitioner for the care team. You will actively engage in the daily activities of our young residents, employing a restorative approach to facilitate their personal development and learning.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the care team
  • Collaborate with the Team Manager to ensure high-quality care in a secure environment
  • Manage staff in accordance with policies and procedures, assisting with recruitment and professional development
  • Ensure effective key working and case management to safeguard young individuals, minimize risks, and promote positive outcomes
  • Address behavioral challenges proactively and develop long-term strategies for improvement
  • Deliver individualized care that meets diverse needs, including health care, educational support, and personal growth
  • Organize activities that enhance the daily experiences of young people and celebrate special occasions

Candidate Profile

We seek experienced, enthusiastic, and adaptable candidates who possess the personal qualities necessary to connect with and motivate vulnerable children and adolescents. Ideal candidates will have:

  • The confidence to lead a team and engage with various professionals and stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication and listening abilities
  • Self-awareness to recognize their impact on others and the capacity to reflect on their own practices
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Proficient verbal and written English, numeracy, and basic computer skills
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (or equivalent), or a commitment to obtaining this qualification within a reasonable timeframe (course fees covered)
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development
  • Knowledge of restorative and trauma-informed practices
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and child protection principles
  • Experience in a residential childcare setting, supporting children or young people with complex and challenging behaviors
  • Experience in supervising staff and facilitating their training and development
