Role Overview
Position Summary
The Finance division at Clifford Chance plays a pivotal role in the firm's strategic direction. This department is responsible for managing financial accounts, overseeing budgets and forecasts, conducting trend analyses, and providing statistical support for presentations to Partners. Additionally, it handles cash management, remuneration, and internal audits, ensuring the firm operates in a compliant, efficient, and profitable manner.
The position of Commercial Pricing Strategy Specialist is integral to the global Commercial Finance team, recognized as the authorities in delivering high-quality commercial pricing, analysis, and insights.
Collaborations
You will support Partners across the UK and Continental Europe in achieving the firm's strategic pricing and commercial goals through effective matter pricing assistance.
This role requires close collaboration with both regional and global pricing teams, contributing actively to international pricing initiatives. You will also work alongside local colleagues from Business Development, the Innovation & Best Delivery Team, and various finance and business professional functions.

Pricing Duties
Collaborating with Partners to develop and model pricing options for matters, formulating negotiation strategies, and assisting in commercial pricing discussions. Providing comprehensive pricing support throughout the lifecycle of matters. Coordinating regional practice area pricing committees and submitting proposals to both regional and global pricing committees. Ensuring compliance with the firm's commercial standards and pricing governance framework. Continuously enhancing commercial governance tools, processes, and best practices within the team. Training and upskilling fee earners and business professionals across the network to foster improved commercial awareness.Team Dynamics
Contributing as part of a highly skilled and knowledgeable team that is regarded as a trusted and valuable resource. Engaging within a practice area-aligned network of commercial pricing specialists, offering support to colleagues both regionally and globally. Reporting to the Director of Commercial Finance through respective Practice Area Leads, with close alignment to the Regional Business Manager.Focus Areas
In this capacity, you will primarily support the UK and Continental European regions. The role of the Commercial Pricing Strategy Specialist is centered on:
Enhancing commercial awareness among Partners, fee earners, and business professionals, aiding in strategic decision-making on commercial matters. This involves creating pricing models and negotiation strategies, providing support throughout the pricing process and matter lifecycle. Upholding the application of our commercial standards and pricing governance. Identifying opportunities to add value for clients through alternative fee arrangements. Engaging with clients, particularly in procurement and legal operations, during tenders and negotiations while supporting Partners throughout. Developing expertise in a specific Practice Area within the region while also supporting the broader team as necessary.Required Qualifications
Skills and Attributes
A commercially driven and numerically adept individual with a proven track record of influencing Partners and senior stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating commercial concepts with the authority needed to influence Partner decisions and engage with clients. A strong negotiator who can maintain margins during discussions while managing client procurement interactions. Ability to work independently under established guidelines while being part of a collaborative and impactful team.Experience Requirements
Ideally, experience in providing pricing support within a law firm or professional services environment. Familiarity with scenario modeling, compiling pricing proposals, and understanding the elements that drive client value and commercially viable pricing.Knowledge Base
A finance or procurement expert who comprehends the sensitivities involved in dealing with Partners and clients regarding matter pricing.
Educational Background
A degree-level education is preferred.
Language Proficiency
Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in additional European languages is advantageous.
