Role Overview
In this role, you will engage in all facets of venture establishment within the realm of sustainable steel production. This includes devising optimal strategies to achieve desired outcomes, assembling a capable team, and formulating a robust business model.
Key Focus Areas
- Transform existing facilities to achieve carbon neutrality through alternative fuels or emissions capture technologies.
- Develop new production plants utilizing cutting-edge technologies to establish industry-leading practices.
- Address challenges associated with plant decommissioning, sourcing sustainable carbon, and retrofitting existing infrastructure.
Future Vision
We envision a steel manufacturing process that seamlessly integrates with renewable energy sources and utilizes fully renewable carbon for alloying. Additionally, we aim to innovate methods for processing lower-grade ores and identifying cost-effective chemical reductants.
Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent experience in metallurgical engineering, materials science, process design, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
- In-depth industry knowledge, including commercial acumen in strategic partnerships, manufacturing, and procurement within the steel sector.
- Proven track record in developing and scaling new technologies from concept to operational demonstration.
- Experience in leading and expanding high-growth enterprises, particularly in executive roles.
- Access to specialized tools, resources, and methodologies designed to facilitate the creation of impactful ventures.
- Expertise in specific opportunity areas through collaboration with our network of partners and advisors.
Investment and Support
We offer up to £250,000 in funding to establish the new venture and develop initial proof-of-concept data. Continuous support post-spinout will include assistance with fundraising, forming commercial partnerships, recruitment, and team development.
This initiative is backed by the Decarbonisation Ventures team of a leading global mining corporation, aimed at fostering climate-positive innovations through strategic investments and collaborations.
