We are seeking a visionary Co-Founder in Residence to join our Climate initiative at Deep Science Ventures. This is an open application for expressions of interest, with hiring to begin later this year.
As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our DSV team and the current Founder in Residence to co-found and spin-out a new company focused on zero emission steel production. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing a global scale, impact-driven, high-growth company from the ground up.
The role is full-time, initially remote, with possible relocation once the new venture is incorporated. You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of operators who have founded companies and led the translation of science at leading universities, charities, funds, and government agencies.
About the Opportunity Area: Zero Emission SteelSteel production is a critical sector that requires complex engineering and emits significant amounts of CO2. Our approach focuses on developing a steel plant that is fully compatible with intermittent renewable electricity and heat, ensuring steelmaking uses fully-renewable carbon sources for alloying. We are exploring novel technologies, such as renewable heating, medium-temperature processes, alternative energy storage systems, and alternative carbon sources like biochar and CO2 graphitisation.
We are seeking candidates with a strong background in metallurgical engineering, material sciences, process design, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a relevant field. Experience in building and scaling new technologies from concept to demonstration, as well as industry-specific know-how and commercial knowledge, is highly valued.
