Editorial Commissioning Specialist

The Telegraph Magazine is seeking a highly skilled Editorial Commissioning Specialist to join its award-winning team.
The successful candidate will have a broad range of knowledge and interests that span various subjects, including politics, sport, technology, and fashion. They will be able to identify compelling long-form journalism topics that will resonate with our intelligent and affluent audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commission and edit long-form features, interviews, and news features, with a focus on securing exclusive interviews across all subject areas.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with literary, entertainment, and arts contacts, as well as build relationships with freelance writers.
- Oversee regular magazine features and contribute to the development of innovative content approaches.
- Generate a steady stream of fresh ideas for The Telegraph Magazine's demographic.
This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced journalist who wants to leverage their existing skills and experience to take on large-scale projects across multiple platforms.
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the picture director, art director, visual storytelling, and digital teams to brief them on each feature's direction and requirements.
They will be responsible for studying The Telegraph's measures of success and finding new ways to build on them, as well as developing innovative approaches to content that will be rolled out across other parts of the editorial team.
Key Skills:
- Experience in commissioning and editing long-form content.
- Digital knowledge and the ability to think in a 360-degree way.
- The ability to rework copy quickly and under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good knowledge of media law.
- A voracious appetite for reading widely across print, digital, and social media to identify compelling stories from around the world.
