About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Editorial Director to join our team at Penguin Life, a division of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA. As a key member of our publishing team, you will be responsible for commissioning and managing a portfolio of non-fiction titles that align with our strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commission and acquire new non-fiction titles that meet our editorial and commercial criteria
  • Work closely with authors, agents, and other stakeholders to develop and refine book concepts
  • Manage the publishing cycle of your books, including liaison with key departments, authors, and external partners
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with authors, agents, and other partners in the UK and internationally
  • Collaborate with the publishing team to identify and pursue new business opportunities
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Proven experience in non-fiction publishing, with a strong track record of commissioning and managing successful titles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with authors, agents, and other stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of the non-fiction market and trends, with the ability to identify and capitalize on new opportunities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with a strong focus on delivering results
