Job Overview


Brakes, a prominent entity within Sysco, is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to become a vital member of the Controls Finance team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Role Summary


This position reports directly to the Head of Finance Control and plays a crucial role in managing Fixed Asset accounting for Brakes, as well as overseeing Assets under Construction for all Sysco GB operating entities.

This role serves as the primary contact for rental and rate-related expenses across all Brakes locations.

Additionally, the Assistant Management Accountant will be responsible for monitoring intercompany recharges among Brakes, other Sysco GB operating companies, and Sysco Ireland, ensuring monthly reconciliations and quarterly cash settlements are executed smoothly.

The focus will be on executing and enhancing financial processes and reporting, while providing valuable insights across the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register for Brakes, including the posting of monthly depreciation entries within SAP.
  • Conduct the quarterly Fixed Asset Verification process, collaborating with business stakeholders to confirm asset existence and assess their remaining Useful Economic Life.
  • Oversee Assets under Construction, coordinating with stakeholders to identify completion milestones for asset recognition and capitalization in SAP.
  • Generate quarterly rental invoices and reconcile Gerald Eve rate bills for all Brakes locations.
  • Monitor property listings for upcoming rent reviews, ensuring provisions are established and recharged to depots until negotiations are finalized.
  • Conduct monthly monitoring of intercompany recharges with other Sysco GB entities, ensuring alignment through reconciliations.
  • Facilitate quarterly settlements of intercompany trading accounts with Sysco Ireland.
  • Report into the Group Consolidation System (BPC).
  • Perform monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations using the Cadency Trintech tool.
  • Provide support for external and internal audits.
  • Assist with Annual Statutory Accounts and Corporation Tax requirements.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects within a transformational context.
Candidate Profile


The ideal candidate will possess either AAT Level 4 qualification, be part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA), or hold a Finance/Accounting degree or equivalent, with a desire to pursue or continue studies towards CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualifications through our apprenticeship program.


We seek individuals with strong analytical capabilities, able to swiftly comprehend and interpret complex data.

Excellent communication skills are essential, enabling clear explanations of financial matters to colleagues at all levels within the organization.

Attention to detail is paramount, along with the ability to identify and resolve issues as they arise. Flexibility to travel to the office each month is required.
