Position Overview

This role offers a unique opportunity within the Histopathology Department, part of the Cellular Pathology directorate. The department is responsible for receiving and processing patient tissue samples, delivering diagnostic reports to healthcare professionals. Joining our dynamic team in a modern laboratory setting, you will contribute to a high-volume workload encompassing a variety of routine and specialized services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Biomedical Scientist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging in all specialized areas of the laboratory, including dissection, section cutting, embedding, special staining, and immunocytochemistry/molecular services.
  • Performing frozen sections and Mohs frozen sections.
  • Supporting senior staff through supervision, training, and quality control initiatives.
  • Providing on-call support as part of a rotational schedule for registered BMS staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
  • Registration portfolio from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or working towards it for trainee roles.
  • Membership with the IBMS.

Required Experience

  • Proficient understanding of laboratory techniques relevant to the service.

  • Up-to-date clinical knowledge supported by practical experience.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
