Job Title: Core Subject Secondary SEN Teacher

Location: Totnes

Salary: £25,000 - £36,000 per annum

Main Purpose:

To deliver an engaging curriculum that enables all pupils to make good progress and achieve their full potential. To encourage pupil participation in all lessons and school-related activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons to support pupils in making good or outstanding progress and embedding key concepts in their long-term memory.
  • Set clear targets for pupils' learning, building on prior attainment and considering each pupil as an individual.
  • Develop expert knowledge in the subject(s) taught and plan to meet the special educational needs of pupils.
  • Enable all pupils to understand key concepts, effectively checking understanding and correcting misunderstandings.
  • Assess pupil work and progress, providing regular feedback to continuously inform your teaching.
  • Prioritise reading to develop pupils' fluency, confidence, and enjoyment.
  • Plan and sequence learning towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and, as appropriate, meaningful accreditation.
  • Build all learning towards an end point that leads into the next stage of their education, training, or employment.
  • Report on pupil progress in line with school policy.
  • Maintain a stimulating, engaging, and safe learning environment that allows pupils to focus on learning.
  • Positively manage behaviour in line with school policy.
  • Undertake a pastoral and support role as required.
  • Attend school events as required.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including whole-school routines, paperwork, and duties.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development and engage with performance management activities.
  • Work with pupils across school sites and at outreach venues as required.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not necessary.
  • Experience in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential.
