London, Greater London, United Kingdom Commonwealth Foundation Full time

About the Commonwealth Foundation

The Commonwealth Foundation is a global intergovernmental organization dedicated to placing Commonwealth citizens at the forefront of discussions and decisions regarding vital issues that impact their lives. Our mission is to foster the development of dynamic and free societies by promoting active and constructive involvement of individuals in all governance aspects. Our primary focus areas include climate justice, health equity, and freedom of expression, while our overarching themes encompass gender equality, support for small and vulnerable states, and youth engagement.

Role Overview

As a Programme Officer, you will collaborate closely with the Manager of the Knowledge, Learning, and Communications (KLC) team. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the Foundation's digital platforms, curating and producing content for our online channels that effectively communicates our impactful results and narrates the Foundation's story in a compelling manner. You will also coordinate events, facilitate promotional activities, assist with media relations, support annual reporting, and monitor results, while providing guidance to Foundation staff on the optimal use of communication tools and IT resources. Your engagement with civil society issues across the Commonwealth will be crucial.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with the following:

  • Advocating for the values and objectives of the Commonwealth
  • Tracking and engaging with sector news, trends, and discussions
  • Developing and managing content for all social media platforms, including monitoring and reporting on digital metrics
  • Overseeing content management for the Foundation's websites and collaborating with web developers to enhance functionality
  • Leading event coordination and promotional efforts
  • Collaborating with other Foundation programs to identify opportunities for synergy towards our vision and mission
  • Advising staff on effective use of information technology, including platforms like Zoom Webinars and databases such as Airtable
  • Creating written and multimedia content that captures best practices and ideas from various areas of our work for broader communication
  • Coordinating and supporting data collection and monitoring results in alignment with our strategic goals
  • Preparing written materials for briefing notes, reports, and presentations
  • Providing guidance and support to staff in their communication efforts.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an individual with proven experience in communications within a similar field, particularly in social media and online marketing, as well as familiarity with website content management systems. The ideal candidate will possess skills in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and have a solid understanding of Microsoft tools and virtual meeting platforms. Strong writing abilities, storytelling, and reporting experience are essential, along with a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders. Awareness of brand and style guidelines in communication activities is important, as is the comfort in serving as a primary contact for media inquiries and liaising with colleagues and external partners.

Salary and Benefits

Salary expectations are set at £31,000 per annum.

We offer a generous holiday allowance of 30 days, in addition to 8 bank holidays and 4 privilege days.

Fifteen percent of your salary is provided tax-free at specified intervals in lieu of a formal superannuation scheme.

Foundation staff benefit from access to our private health scheme, which includes dental coverage.

We are currently implementing a flexible working policy that requires all staff to work from the office at least five days per fortnight, including every Wednesday.
