Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized or small group assistance to students with autism, helping them engage with the curriculum and reach their educational objectives.
  • Create a supportive and understanding environment where students feel secure and appreciated, fostering their social and emotional growth.
  • Collaborate with educators and staff to execute Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and implement behaviour management techniques tailored to each student's requirements.
  • Facilitate effective communication among students, educators, and parents/guardians, ensuring all parties are informed and engaged in the student's development.
  • Encourage students to cultivate their independence and life skills, enhancing their self-esteem and resilience.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to educators and contributing to progress assessments and reviews.
  • Work in partnership with teaching staff and fellow support assistants to foster a cohesive learning atmosphere that accommodates the diverse needs of all students.

Qualifications:

  • Experience or training in supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a positive outlook towards student development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and the educational environment.
  • Dedication to promoting inclusivity and equality within an educational framework.
