Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Ramboll Full time
Company Overview

Are you interested in contributing to a sustainable future through innovative energy solutions? Do you have experience in the design and execution of Power Systems? This position offers an opportunity to engage in international projects and make a significant impact globally.

Your Role

As a key member of our Power Systems division, you will collaborate with a talented multi-disciplinary team and various project managers across diverse regions to deliver tailored solutions in the energy sector. You will serve as the primary resource for power systems inquiries from our colleagues in district energy, energy transition, energy from waste, and wind sectors, ensuring a comprehensive energy strategy for our clients. Our mission is to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of power systems worldwide and facilitate the transition to net-zero on the UK's constrained grid. Our offerings range from feasibility assessments to detailed technical analyses, tailored to meet client requirements. We also act as Owner's Engineer for our clients, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Power Systems subject matter expert for energy projects in the UK, contributing your knowledge at various project stages;
  • Develop electrical designs during the feasibility phase for new connections or upgrades, including HV connections for new energy centers and EHV connections for battery storage or renewable initiatives;
  • Create connection strategies, high-level equipment sizing, single line diagrams, and spatial designs for new substations across multiple voltage levels (MV, HV, EHV);
  • Conduct technical reviews and prepare necessary documentation and studies;
  • As needed, assemble a team to support in-depth analysis of power systems;
  • Act as the liaison and coordinator between Ramboll UK and other global Ramboll power systems teams;
  • Assist in energy masterplan studies focused on decarbonization pathways by providing expert insights on future loads, feasibility of proposed solutions, and grid impact assessments at local, regional, or national levels;
  • Keep the team informed on policy and regulatory changes that may affect power systems solutions;
  • Draft tender responses and assist in business development for power system clients or internal stakeholders;
  • Stay updated on supplier developments, equipment lead times, and high-level costs for substations and new connections to the transmission and distribution network;
  • Perform Due Diligence and Owner's Engineer tasks for client projects;
  • Manage bids and projects throughout their lifecycle;
  • Remain informed about the latest ancillary, balancing, and flexibility market services available for industrial, renewable, and battery storage projects.
Your Team

You will be part of a department dedicated to addressing the green transition, offering a comprehensive approach to energy that supports the sector's journey toward sustainable solutions. With a workforce of 2,000 experts across 14 countries, we cover the entire spectrum of technologies and all aspects of the value chain, from production and transmission to distribution, planning, designing, and implementing energy solutions globally.

About You

At Ramboll, we prioritize your personal and professional growth from day one. We are committed to supporting your continuous learning and development. For this role, we have identified key qualifications, skills, and attributes that will contribute to your success:
  • Experience in transmission, distribution, or consulting, particularly in infrastructure planning for project-level, local, and regional power systems across various stages (feasibility, concept, design, and specification);
  • Familiarity with grid code compliance requirements;
  • High-level modeling of potential new connections, including associated costs;
  • Experience working with DNO standard documents, reviewing single line diagrams and designs;
  • Knowledge of energy network regulations and current changes in business plans and connection charges;
  • Experience in grid impact assessments for new projects, including connections for renewable energy, heat pumps, and other new technologies.
What We Offer
  • Investment in your professional development;
  • Supportive leadership guided by our Leadership Principles;
  • Recognition of your unique contributions;
  • Inspiration from colleagues, clients, and projects;
  • A foundation-owned company with a long-term vision.
