Key Responsibilities
We are currently in search of a highly skilled and motivated pharmacy technician to join our clinical pharmacy team. This position involves providing clinical services on a new sub-acute frailty ward, aimed at enhancing care for patients.
This is a remarkable opportunity for a technician to become part of our innovative and supportive team, dedicated to delivering specialized clinical pharmacy services at the ward level and demonstrating leadership in medication management. We are looking for an individual with experience and a passion for hospital pharmacy, who is enthusiastic, motivated, and focused on patient safety.
The ideal candidate will possess qualifications including NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services, a BTEC (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical sciences, and a BTEC Accuracy Checking qualification. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council is mandatory.

Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will operate at an advanced specialist level within the frailty clinical service on the wards, delivering high-quality care to patients through effective medication optimization.
As a member of the Clinical Pharmacy Frailty Team, you will engage in critical projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and patient care across various interfaces, including the safe transition of care concerning medications.
The Clinical Pharmacy Frailty Team will spearhead medication optimization strategies, including palliative and end-of-life care.
The team will utilize tools such as STOPP-START, STOP, and 7 STEPS in response to national initiatives regarding polypharmacy and overprescribing.
Responsibilities will include assessing patients' own medications, conducting medication reconciliation, planning discharges, counseling patients about their medications, and coordinating the supply of discharge medications to ensure efficient patient flow.
The successful candidate will collaborate with the clinical pharmacy team to continuously enhance service delivery while maintaining high standards and achieving best practices to meet the needs of patients and the organization.
This role will also involve serving as a Practice/Educational supervisor, providing line management and leadership, and taking responsibility for a defined area of service delivery.
Additionally, the role will encompass dispensary-based responsibilities, including dispensing-on-ward activities and functioning as an accredited checking technician.
Qualifications
Essential
- Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent GPhC Registration
Knowledge
Essential
- Comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training, NVQ3, BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, or equivalent
- Familiarity with procedures and practices associated with hospital pharmacy operations
- Awareness of the significance of safe medication transitions and the potential impact of errors across care interfaces
