About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Volunteer Kitchen Assistant at our Day Centre in Southampton. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting our clients who are experiencing homelessness or unstable accommodation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming environment for clients, promoting a sense of community and belonging.
  • Assist in the preparation of healthy and nutritious meals, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Support kitchen staff in maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and canteen environment.
  • Engage with clients, responding to their needs and wishes in a respectful and empathetic manner.
  • Contribute to the efficient management of donations and resources.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives, reporting any concerns to the team.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, promoting a non-discriminatory and person-centered approach.
  • Remain resilient in high-pressure situations, prioritizing client well-being.
  • Recognize and respond to clients' physiological needs.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required to support the organization and clients.

Requirements

  • Clear verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to cook to a high standard, adhering to food safety guidelines.
  • Polite, assertive manner, with self-motivation and a passion for working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Interest and genuine concern for homelessness and related issues.
  • Flexible approach to meeting the needs of the organization and clients.
