About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Volunteer Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the Day Centre in Southampton. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a vital role in providing hot nutritious meals to our clients who are homeless or in unstable accommodation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for our clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
- Work collaboratively with our kitchen staff to prepare healthy and substantial meals, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
- Support clients in a client-facing role, responding to their needs and wishes, including cultural differences.
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen and canteen, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all.
- Manage donations efficiently, ensuring our resources are utilized effectively.
- Take responsibility for health and safety concerns, reporting any issues to the team promptly.
- Manage difficult situations with clients, ensuring they feel listened to and respected.
- Practice a non-discriminatory and person-centered approach, recognizing the dignity and worth of each individual.
- Be resilient in the face of high emotions, particularly in times of conflict.
- Recognize and respond to the physiological needs of our clients.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Essential Qualifications/Training
We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for working with vulnerable people in the homeless sector. While previous experience is not essential, you will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of food hygiene and safety standards, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
