About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kitchen Volunteer to join our team at the Day Centre in Southampton. As a Kitchen Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing hot nutritious meals to our clients who are homeless or in unstable accommodation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
- Assist in preparing healthy and substantial meals, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
- Support kitchen staff in maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and canteen.
- Engage with clients, responding to their needs and wishes, and promoting a non-discriminatory and person-centered approach.
- Manage donations efficiently and report any health and safety concerns to the team.
- Practice resilience in high-pressure situations and recognize the physiological needs of clients.
Requirements
- Clear verbal and written English.
- Able to cook to a high standard.
- Polite, assertive manner, and ability to self-motivate.
- Passion for working in a client-facing role and a genuine concern for homelessness and related issues.
