About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Volunteer Kitchen Assistant at our Day Centre in Southampton. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a vital role in providing hot nutritious meals to our clients who are homeless or in unstable accommodation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for clients, ensuring their needs are met and their dignity is respected.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of healthy meals, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
- Support the kitchen team in maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen and canteen area.
- Engage with clients, responding to their needs and concerns in a respectful and empathetic manner.
- Contribute to the overall well-being of our clients, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
- Participate in health and safety initiatives, reporting any concerns or issues to the team.
- Collaborate with the team to manage donations and resources effectively.
- Develop a sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and report any concerns to the team.
Requirements
- Clear verbal and written English communication skills.
- Able to cook to a high standard and maintain food hygiene standards.
- Polite, assertive manner and ability to self-motivate.
- Passion for working with vulnerable individuals and a genuine concern for homelessness and related issues.
- Flexible approach to meeting the needs of our clients.
