About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Volunteer Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the Day Centre in Southampton. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a vital role in providing hot, nutritious meals to our clients who are homeless or in unstable accommodation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for our clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
- Work collaboratively with our kitchen staff to prepare healthy and substantial meals, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
- Support clients in a client-facing role, responding to their needs and wishes with empathy and understanding.
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen and canteen, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all.
- Manage donations efficiently, ensuring our resources are utilized effectively.
- Take responsibility for health and safety concerns, reporting any issues to the team promptly.
- Practice a non-discriminatory and person-centered approach, recognizing the dignity and worth of each individual.
- Be resilient in the face of challenging situations, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
Requirements
- Clear verbal and written English
- Able to cook to a high standard
- Polite, assertive manner, with the ability to self-motivate
- Passion for working in a client-facing role, with a genuine concern for homelessness and related issues
- Flexible approach to meeting the needs of our clients
