Job Overview

At Boeing, we are dedicated to innovation and teamwork to enhance the world around us. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected in our workplace culture, where every team member is valued and supported. We strive to create an environment that promotes professional development and personal growth.

Boeing Defence UK (BDUK), a subsidiary of Boeing, employs over 1,400 professionals in the UK and is engaged in delivering significant contracts to our Defence clients. Our projects include the E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, and Through Life Support for the Chinook and Apache Fleets, among others.

This position is for an Engineering Product Review Specialist within the Engineering Function at BDUK, focusing on the Chinook program. The role will be under the supervision of the Production Engineering Manager.

The selected candidate will receive training to achieve Material Review Board (MRB) authorization for the relevant platform. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analysis, formulating resolutions for identified non-conformances (NCRs), and proposing enhancements to existing processes and procedures. Furthermore, the role involves documenting and communicating deviations that may affect design intent or safety, while collaborating with the Design organization to address urgent airworthiness issues.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will assist the product repair and overhaul operations by providing procedures, authorized repair guidance, and relevant technical data to resolve engineering inquiries. They will leverage their knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and design processes to define optimized component recovery techniques, utilizing design definitions, program directives, engineering drawings, schematics, and supplier data.

The position is based in a hybrid model, allowing for part-time work options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Boeing design engineering principles to investigate technical, operational, and quality challenges, developing both interim and final engineering solutions.
  • Employ knowledge of Boeing engineering principles to create solutions for product/process issues that arise during production or for technical, operational, and quality challenges that exceed customer resolution capabilities.
  • Conduct failure analysis and troubleshooting to identify root causes, providing engineering support and written resolutions for design non-conformances.
  • Generate customer communications to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Implement product and process improvements.
  • Engage in Material Review Boards and support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), offering technical insights during design and in-service evaluations.
  • Represent the engineering community in post-production scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with Boeing standards and processes among suppliers and build partners.
  • Participate in on-site repair teams for disabled products and contribute to accident investigations.
  • Analyze damage repairs or structural modifications to establish safe work environments.
  • Design interim structural repairs and perform static strength analyses.
  • Develop non-destructive testing procedures, tools, and standards.
  • Provide technical solutions to complex problems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and standards.
  • Work autonomously, determining approaches to solutions with general oversight.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree typically obtained through an accredited educational program.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Chartership registration with a relevant engineering council or the ability to pursue registration.
  • Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs).
  • Desirable prior experience in helicopter and aircraft fleet maintenance.
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving, and improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and mechanics on the production floor.
  • Experience in the assembly, integration, and testing of components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Background in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with presentation capabilities.

Work Authorization: This position is for local hires in the UK. Candidates must possess current legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not sponsor immigration or labor for applicants.

Security Clearance: This role requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance, necessitating UK Citizenship.

Relocation: This position does not provide relocation assistance. Candidates must reside in the local area or relocate at their own expense.

Export Control Requirements: This position is not subject to export control.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

Boeing is an equal opportunity employer, committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination in our recruitment and employment practices. We welcome applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds and encourage candidates with disabilities to share any necessary accommodations during the recruitment process.
