Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a key player in the UK Defence sector, employing over 1,400 professionals. We are engaged in delivering a range of significant contracts to our defence clients, including advanced aerospace systems and support services.
This position is for an Engineering Specialist focused on Product Evaluation within the Engineering Division at BDUK, specifically supporting the Chinook program. The role will be under the supervision of the Production Engineering Manager.
The selected candidate will receive training to obtain Material Review Board (MRB) authorization for the relevant platform. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analysis, formulating resolutions for identified non-conformances (NCRs), and identifying opportunities for process enhancements. Furthermore, the candidate will document and communicate deviations that may affect design intent or safety, collaborating with the Design team to address urgent airworthiness issues.
In this capacity, the successful individual will assist the product repair and overhaul operations by providing procedures, authorized repair guidance, and relevant technical data to resolve engineering inquiries. They will leverage their knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and design processes to define optimized recovery techniques, utilizing design definitions, program directives, engineering drawings, schematics, and supplier data.
The position is based in a hybrid work environment, offering part-time options.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize Boeing design engineering principles to investigate technical, operational, and quality challenges, developing both interim and final engineering solutions.
- Employ knowledge of Boeing design and engineering principles to address product and process issues throughout production.
- Conduct failure analysis and troubleshooting to determine root causes, providing engineering support and written resolutions for design non-conformances.
- Generate customer communications regarding the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Initiate and implement product and process improvements.
- Engage in Material Review Boards and support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), contributing technical insights during design and in-service evaluations.
- Represent the engineering community in the post-production phase.
- Ensure compliance with Boeing standards and processes among suppliers and build partners.
- Participate in on-site repair teams and support accident investigations.
- Analyze damage repairs or structural modifications to ensure safe work environments.
- Design interim structural repairs and perform static strength analyses.
- Develop non-destructive testing procedures, tools, and standards.
- Provide innovative technical solutions to complex problems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Work independently, developing approaches to solutions with general oversight.
Basic Qualifications:
- Engineering degree from an accredited program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Chartership with an appropriate engineering council or a commitment to pursue registration.
- Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs).
- Experience in helicopter and aircraft fleet maintenance.
- Background in Root Cause Analysis and improvement initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and factory mechanics.
- Experience in assembly integration and testing of components and systems.
- Knowledge of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Authorization: This position is for local hires in the UK. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
Security Clearance: The role requires the ability to obtain UK security clearance, necessitating UK citizenship.
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation assistance; candidates must reside in the local area.
