Boeing Defence UK (BDUK), a subsidiary of the Boeing Company, employs over 1,400 professionals in the UK. BDUK is tasked with executing several exciting contracts for our UK Defence clients, including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services, and Training Services.


This position is for an Engineering Quality Assurance Specialist to join the Engineering Function at Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) in support of the Chinook program. The role will report to the Production Engineering Manager. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers.

The successful candidate will receive training to obtain Material Review Board (MRB) authorization certification for the relevant platform. They will perform root cause analysis, develop solutions for identified non-conformances (NCRs), and identify and support enhancements to processes and procedures. Additionally, they will document and communicate deviations that may affect design intent or safety and collaborate with the Design organization to address emergent airworthiness issues.

In this role, the successful candidate will assist the product repair and overhaul operations by providing procedures, authorized repair guidance, and relevant technical data to resolve engineering clarification inquiries. They will leverage their knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and design processes necessary for defining optimized component recovery techniques, utilizing design definitions, program directives, engineering drawings, schematics, functional tests, or supplier data.

The position will be based on a hybrid work model with part-time options available.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Utilizing Boeing design engineering principles to investigate technical, operational, and quality challenges, and devising interim and final engineering solutions.
  • Applying knowledge of Boeing design and engineering principles to create interim or final engineering solutions for product/process issues throughout production and for technical, operational, and quality challenges that cannot be resolved by the customer.
  • Conducting failure analysis, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting to identify root causes. Providing assistance and engineering support to identify solutions and written dispositions for design non-conformances. Supporting efforts to identify deviations that could impact design intent and safety as well as product/process improvements.
  • Drafting customer correspondence for the continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Developing and implementing product/process enhancements.
  • Participating in Material Review Boards and supporting Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), providing technical input for design and in-service reviews.
  • Representing the engineering community in the post-production environment.
  • Ensuring suppliers and build partners adhere to Boeing standards and processes, representing the engineering community throughout the build and post-production phases.
  • Participating in on-site disabled product repair teams and accident investigation support teams.
  • Analyzing damage repair or structural modifications to determine appropriate jacking and shoring, preventing collateral damage, and ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Designing interim structural repairs and conducting static strength analysis.
  • Developing non-destructive test procedures, tools, and standards.
  • Conducting basic static strength analysis.
  • Providing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems, developing solutions that are innovative, thorough, practical, and aligned with organizational objectives, processes, and standards.
  • Working independently and determining approaches to solutions, receiving general direction for work that is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree typically acquired through an accredited course of study.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Chartership registered with an appropriate engineering council or the ability to work towards registration.
  • Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs).
  • Prior experience in helicopter and aircraft fleet maintenance is desirable.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving, and improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both the engineering workforce and mechanics on the factory floor.
  • Experience in assembly integration and testing of components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Experience in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations and environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Work Authorization: This position is for locally hired candidates in the UK. Applicants must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom.
