Boeing Defence UK (BDUK), a subsidiary of the Boeing Company, employs over 1,400 individuals in the UK and is tasked with delivering several exciting contracts to our Defence clients, including advanced systems and support services.
This position is for an Engineering Specialist focused on Product Evaluation within the Engineering Function at BDUK, specifically supporting the Chinook program. The role will report to the Production Engineering Manager. BDUK is responsible for various significant contracts for UK defence clients.
The successful candidate will receive training to obtain Material Review Board (MRB) authorization certification for the relevant platform. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analysis, formulating dispositions for identified non-conformances (NCRs), and identifying and supporting enhancements to processes and procedures. Additionally, the candidate will document and communicate deviations that may affect design intent or safety and coordinate with the Design organization to address emergent airworthiness issues.
In this role, the successful candidate will support product repair and overhaul operations by providing procedures, authorized repair guidance, and relevant technical data to resolve engineering inquiries. They will apply their knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and design processes necessary for defining optimized component recovery techniques, utilizing design definitions, program directives, engineering drawings, schematics, functional tests, or supplier data.
The position will be based in a hybrid work environment with flexible part-time options available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize Boeing design engineering principles to investigate technical, operational, and quality challenges, developing both interim and final engineering solutions.
- Employ knowledge of Boeing design and engineering principles to create solutions for product and process issues throughout production.
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause analysis to understand underlying issues, providing engineering support to identify solutions and document design non-conformances.
- Prepare customer communications regarding the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Implement product and process improvements.
- Participate in Material Review Boards and support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), offering technical input during design and in-service reviews.
- Represent the engineering community in the post-production environment.
- Ensure compliance with Boeing standards and processes among suppliers and build partners.
- Engage in on-site repair teams for disabled products and support accident investigations.
- Analyze damage repairs or structural modifications to ensure safety and prevent collateral damage.
- Design interim structural repairs and perform static strength analysis.
- Develop non-destructive testing procedures, tools, and standards.
- Provide technical solutions to complex problems, ensuring they align with organizational objectives and standards.
- Work independently, determining approaches to solutions with general direction.
Basic Qualifications:
- Engineering degree typically obtained through an accredited program.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Chartership with an appropriate engineering council or the ability to work towards registration.
- Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs).
- Experience in helicopter and aircraft fleet maintenance is advantageous.
- Background in Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving, and improvement initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and mechanics.
- Experience in assembly integration and testing of components and systems.
- Knowledge of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Authorization: This position is for locally hired candidates in the UK. Applicants must have current legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom.
Security Clearance: The role requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance, which necessitates UK Citizenship.
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must reside in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
