Position Overview:
At Capita, we are eager to enhance our welcoming and supportive Local Government Services team by adding a new Council Tax Officer. This remote role involves managing inquiries and communications from council tax clients regarding their accounts and payments. You will be responsible for maintaining our databases, ensuring that queries are directed to the appropriate teams when you cannot resolve them, and guaranteeing that all customers receive exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine computer records (Academy One Revenues and Benefits) and analyze customer accounts to optimize the collection of Council Tax.
  • Handle and respond to written and verbal inquiries from the public, utilizing a document imaging system (Anite), EGWM, and adhering to established procedures and guidelines.
  • Engage with customers over the phone as necessary.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements in writing and via phone for outstanding debts.
  • Ensure accounts progress through the recovery cycle by reviewing housekeeping lists.
  • Encourage customers to utilize direct debit, e-billing, and self-service options.
  • Investigate records and collaborate with external agencies to locate debtors who have relocated.
Candidate Profile:
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.
  • Proficient in computer use.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Good organizational abilities.
