About the Role

As a Marine Electrical Systems Designer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of electrical systems for marine vessels. You will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models and 2D drawings that ensure the safe and efficient operation of these complex systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive 3D routed system models, encompassing cable containment (ladder, tray, basket), penetrations, and cableway supports, adhering to industry standards and project specifications.
  • Generate precise 2D electrical installation and fabrication drawings from the 3D model, including cable containment installations, penetration installations, and material schedules, ensuring compliance with recognized standards.
  • Meticulously identify errors and omissions within source 3D models and 2D deliverables that may conflict with specifications, policies, or clash detection requirements.
  • Interpret and produce electrical single-line diagrams, block diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, and termination drawings.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering colleagues and stakeholders during the detail design phase to ensure seamless coordination and functionality through spatial integration reviews and design reviews.
  • Contribute innovative design solutions to optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Provide technical support by assisting in the resolution of manufacturing and installation issues, addressing queries related to design specifications and production processes.
  • Maintain clear communication with management by reporting on technical progress and any encountered challenges.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety, health, and environmental regulations by ensuring their implementation throughout all design activities.
  • Participate in ship surveys to validate existing system drawings and ensure accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Possess an NC/HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Hold an apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or demonstrate substantial industry experience in marine electrical design.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrate familiarity with shipbuilding/ship repair terminology and practices.
  • Possess experience in Design for Manufacture within the marine build and/or refit marketplace (or similar).
  • Exhibit proficiency in using parametric/spec-driven CAD systems in a 3D/2D environment.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Understand change control processes when updating drawings and documentation revisions.
Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of MOD(N) ships would be highly advantageous.
Experience

Experience with design governance, particularly in performing self-verification of work through the drawing check and approval process is highly valued.
