About the Company:

Our client, a leading player in the alternate energy sector, is dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable energy solutions. With operations spanning multiple sites, our client is committed to driving excellence in both engineering and commercial practices to meet the growing energy demands.

Role Summary:

The Commercial Director/COO will be a key member of the executive team, responsible for delivering the company's strategic goals. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen to drive business growth, operational efficiency, and strategic development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering within the energy sector, combined with significant experience in commercial management.

Our client is seeking a seasoned professional with the commercial acumen to take their highly innovative and patented wind energy product to market, but also with the technical know-how to drive the R+D team to ensure the product is right for the desired markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with company goals.
    • Drive business growth through strategic planning and market analysis.
    • Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to shape the company's vision and long-term strategy.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee daily operations across multiple sites, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Lead and effectively manage the teams.
    • Effectively manage contractors and supply chain.
    • Implement robust processes and systems to enhance productivity and operational performance.
  • Commercial Development:
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.
    • Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee budget planning, financial forecasting, and performance reporting.
    • Manage risks and opportunities to safeguard the company's financial health.
  • Travel:
    • Regular travel between sites is required to oversee operations, engage with teams, and meet clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in a related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering). An MBA or equivalent commercial qualification is highly desirable.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the energy and engineering sector, with a significant portion in a senior commercial or operational role.
  3. Proven track record in managing large-scale engineering projects and commercial operations.
  4. Strong understanding of the energy market, regulatory environment, and industry trends.
  5. Ability to travel extensively and manage multiple site operations.
  6. Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  7. Proficient in project management and operational optimisation.
  8. Technical skills in either wind energy products, electrical generation or adjacent areas.
