Position Overview:

In collaboration with the Administrative Director and the Chief of Laboratory Medicine, the Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations and quality assurance of the Microbiology section within Morph Enterprise. This role entails managing compliance with testing standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring that the laboratory meets or exceeds the accreditation criteria set forth by relevant agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Directs and supervises the Microbiology laboratory team.
  • Takes full accountability for the performance and actions of laboratory personnel.
  • Fosters a culture of quality and compliance within the laboratory environment.
  • Provides on-call support as needed.
  • Participates in strategic planning initiatives for the department.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and evaluates new technologies.

Financial Oversight:

  • Manages the budget for the Microbiology section, including billing analysis and revenue integrity.
  • Monitors overtime to align with organizational goals.
  • Collaborates with the Supply Chain department for equipment maintenance agreements.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

  • Ensures adherence to all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Engages in quality assurance programs and prepares necessary reports.
  • Keeps Policy and Procedure Manuals up to date and ensures safety compliance.

Technical Leadership:

  • Provides expertise and solutions for technical challenges.
  • Plans and implements new methodologies and technologies.
  • Ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment.

Human Resource Management:

  • Oversees recruitment and selection processes for laboratory staff.
  • Manages training and competency assessments for personnel.
  • Supports employee engagement and performance management initiatives.
  • Coordinates cross-training programs to optimize staff utilization.

Communication:

  • Facilitates regular communication with laboratory staff.
  • Collaborates with management to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Implements customer service initiatives and values feedback.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to the organization's behavioral standards.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with accreditation requirements, particularly from The Joint Commission and College of American Pathologists.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of scientific principles.
