Key Responsibilities

The Specialist Children and Young People's Service is excited to offer a position for a motivated and values-driven nurse to join our team at Ferndene as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within our newly integrated inpatient model.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will collaborate with the Ward Manager to deliver exceptional nursing care and treatment to Children and Young People with significant care requirements due to complex challenges and associated risks. The successful candidate will need to exhibit outstanding leadership abilities to effectively influence, inform, and advise on clinical training needs while providing specialized support, supervision, and training to the staff within the service.

This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of child and adolescent mental health and learning disabilities, along with leadership and management skills. A solid grasp of complex mental health issues, attachment, and trauma is essential, as well as knowledge of the intricate needs of young individuals diagnosed with learning disabilities and comorbidities, such as neurodevelopmental challenges, while working within a positive behavior support framework.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • First-level nursing qualification and registration.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience in therapies pertinent to the pathway.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in providing clinical supervision to healthcare staff.
  • Specialized skills in risk assessment, effective management tools, and treatment formulation.
