A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to gain experience within a specialist Child and Adolescent Inpatient service. Ferndene is an acute inpatient service for young people aged 13 to 18 years experiencing a range of acute mental health difficulties. This post specifically works with young people with a learning disability diagnosis and sometimes also with autism spectrum disorder and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.
Main duties of the job
To provide occupational therapy service to service users who have a variety of occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health conditions, cognitive and/or learning disabilities under the direction of a more experienced member of Occupational Therapy manage and provide ongoing assessment and intervention for service consider carer needs and ensure carer and family are involved in intervention planning where develop and deliver evidenced based Occupational Therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and carers where post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and provide clinical supervision to staff members as delegated by Clinical incorporate a client centred philosophy into clinical practice and client centred collaborative care.

Job responsibilities
The role of the Band 5 is to provide Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions to young people with learning disabilities who have been admitted following onset of acute mental health difficulties who require a period of assessment and treatment within an in-patient setting.
In addition to providing individual basedinterventions there is also opportunity to gain experience in facilitating therapeutic group work and facilitating interventions in the community to support discharge planning, and young peoples recovery and return to the community.
We offer a seven-day service to meet the needs of the young people across their day. The successful applicant will work a shift pattern across seven days that allows for meaningful work-life balance.
You will have the opportunity to work as an autonomous practitioner but will work closely with AHP Assistant Practitioners and the Advanced Occupational Therapist in the pathway. Also, working alongside other AHP colleagues including the Speech and Language Therapist, Dietitian, and the wider team of Psychologists, Medical and Nursing colleagues.
There are opportunities to develop skills and awareness of the context of Children and Young Peoples Mental Health presentations and treatment approaches via accredited specialist training subjects related to Children and Young Peoples Mental Health. There is also an active CPD forum and links with therapists across the inpatient services including PICU, Low and Medium Secure. There is also opportunity to gain skills and awareness of specialist approaches such as sensory integration.
Regular formal and informal supervision and support, and opportunities for joint working is available from the Advanced Occupational Therapist as well as other colleagues. The Occupational Therapy team at Ferndene consists of a motivated, caring and compassionate team who are committed to the needs of their patients.
