Job Title: Biomedical Scientist - Advanced Practitioner
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a Biomedical Scientist - Advanced Practitioner, you will be responsible for working within the professional standards as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HPC) and maintaining a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Maintain Advanced Practitioner Skills: Develop and maintain advanced practitioner skills in specimen dissection as a specialist interest and contribute to its implementation and development.
- Undertake Specimen Dissection: Undertake advanced practitioner cut up of fresh and fixed bone and soft tissue surgical specimens as part of the department's rota in conjunction with the deputy laboratory manager.
- Training and Competency: Be responsible for and undertake appropriate training and competency for AP dissection as laid out in the IBMS/RCPath portfolio of excellence and complete within two years of taking the post.
- Scientific Work: Deliver a range of scientific work demanding skilled performance working with some autonomy but within the overall responsibility of the head of department.
- Workload Management: Oversee, coordinate, and manage the daily workload in the laboratory.
- Staff Supervision: Supervise and coordinate activities of the BMS staff and junior lab staff. Provide training of BMS/lab staff in laboratory techniques and processes.
- Reporting: Use the digital dictation system to create the macro descriptions of the samples used in departmental reports.
- Specimen Monitoring: Ensure all specimens for decalcification are monitored regularly and processed as soon as possible.
