Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking a dedicated Hospital Engineer to enhance our operational team at Ashtead Hospital. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Hospital Engineer will collaborate with another engineer to ensure the effective delivery of engineering and maintenance services throughout the facility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development, oversight, communication, and execution of the hospital's maintenance schedule.
  • Conducting regular assessments and tests on equipment and facilities to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Monitoring service requirements and coordinating appropriate service agreements.
  • Compiling and submitting maintenance reports as necessary.
  • Responding promptly to service disruptions and breakdowns.
  • Addressing issues logged in the Hospital Maintenance Log with urgency and priority.
  • Soliciting bids and obtaining estimates for necessary local facility work.
  • Coordinating with tradespeople and external contractors to execute agreed-upon tasks.
  • Supervising contractors on-site to ensure adherence to security and health & safety regulations.
  • Performing weekly fire alarm tests, documenting results, and participating in fire drill exercises.
  • Managing medical gas systems in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Serving as a member of the hospital's Health and Safety committee.
  • Maintaining organized and accurate maintenance records in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Providing on-call support to ensure continuous facility maintenance.
  • Collaborating with engineering colleagues across other hospital locations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in core trades such as electrical, plumbing, and heating services.
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience in healthcare or similar facility maintenance roles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven track record in managing refurbishment and construction projects.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Relevant qualifications such as City and Guilds in building management, engineering, or facility services, or equivalent.
  • ONC/BTEC in a related discipline is advantageous.
  • Basic skills in painting and decorating are desirable.
  • Familiarity with IT cabling and socket installation is a plus.
