Safeguarding Children Specialist Midwife

The Specialist Midwife for Safeguarding will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, wellbeing, and safeguarding of mothers and their babies. This includes providing woman-focused and family-centered midwifery care within a community and hospital setting.
Key Duties- Identify and coordinate the provision of multidisciplinary care for socially vulnerable women through support, advice, and training for staff dealing with complex child protection issues.
- Support all activities necessary in maternity services to ensure that the organization meets its responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and young people.
- Provide high-quality, effective midwifery care that is evidence-based and woman-centered.
- Lead teaching sessions to share learning and ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are adhered to in the clinical setting.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Registered Midwife on the NMC Register.
- Supported Learning in the Clinical Environment.
- Relevant Child Protection training.
- Knowledge and understanding of Domestic Violence, including relevant legislation, national policy, and professional standards.
- Safeguarding Supervision course attended.
The successful candidate will have:
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Knowledge and understanding of Statutory Midwifery Supervision.
- Significant experience in managing Child Protection issues.
- Experience of undertaking audits and implementing/monitoring action plans.
- Experience in working closely with external partners, i.e., CCG and Local Authority in relation to safeguarding.

- Ability to think logically, to make decisions, cope with stress, and work with all levels of staff.
- Commitment to a family-centered environment.
- Interest in own professional development.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
