Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited is partnering with the Student Union of a prestigious 'Top 10' university to find a talented Head of Commercial Services. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic organization that is committed to the development of its commercial services.
About the Role
The Head of Commercial Services will play a key role in the oversight of core service areas that generate income, maximizing profits while delivering high-quality services to students. You will work closely with a forward-thinking senior leadership team to develop and implement commercial strategies, manage a team of commercial managers, and oversee the financial performance of the commercial services.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Services Management: Develop and implement strategies to maximize profits from existing services, expand the range of products and services, and work with the marketing department to promote services.
- Business Development: Identify opportunities to generate funding from external sources, build relationships with external organizations, and develop comprehensive business and operational plans.
- Financial Management: Oversee the financial performance of commercial services, produce an annual budget, report variances, and create action plans to respond to budget variances.
- Staff Management: Monitor workloads, provide coaching and performance reviews, and encourage a learning and development culture.
- Health and Safety: Manage responsibilities delegated by the chief executive and ensure compliance with legislation.
What You'll Need
- Hands-on approach, willing to drive forward the mission of the union.
- Experience producing and implementing strategic, operational, and business plans.
- Proven experience in business development.
- Experience in management in the retail sector, licensed trade, catering, lettings, or similar environments.
- Ideal 3+ years of staff management experience.
- Good understanding of Health and Safety policy and procedures.
- Strong communication skills.
