Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting Specialist

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting to join our client, a well-established Government Organisation based in the heart of Canary Wharf. As a key member of the finance team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on financial reporting, accounting standards, and tax/financial control issues.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting: Prepare the interim and year-end financial statements, including narrative sections, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, public sector accounting requirements, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Financial Control: Provide advice on the application of accounting standards, tax/financial control issues, and support the timely provision of monthly management accounts.
- General Ledger Management: Responsibility for all aspects of the General Ledger, including chart of accounts, banking, VAT, Fixed Asset register, reconciliations.
- Audit and Compliance: Liaise with external auditors over the audit period to ensure smooth progression of audit of the Annual Reports and Accounts to meet the laying timetable.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Analyse current processes to identify and implement ways to improve processes and financial control.
- Leadership and Team Management: Act as a subject expert, providing technical accounting advice in line with IFRS and the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) and other relevant Government guidance documents. Manage a diverse team and ensure all professional training and developments requirements are met.
- Extensive experience of managing audit and delivery of unqualified financial statements.
- Extensive experience of managing financial controls and risks in both reporting and finance operations.
- Application of public sector financial reporting and management rules (including the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM), Managing Public Money etc).
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels, and challenge perceptions, ways of working and decision making where appropriate.
You will be offered a 9-month contract with an immediate start. As a key member of our client's finance team, you will have the opportunity to work with a well-established Government Organisation and contribute to the success of the company.
