Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting to join our team at Michael Page (UK). As a key member of our financial leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate production of financial statements, as well as maintaining a high level of financial control and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review financial statements, including interim and year-end reports, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and accounting standards.
- Provide expert advice on financial reporting and control issues, and support the development of financial policies and procedures.
- Manage the General Ledger, including chart of accounts, banking, VAT, and fixed asset register, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Liaise with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process and meet the laying timetable.
- Take ownership of financial reporting to DHSC and HM Treasury, and ensure timely submission of reports.
- Analyse current processes to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance financial control and efficiency.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing technical accounting advice and guidance to the team.
- Lead and manage a diverse team, ensuring all professional training and development requirements are met.
- Extensive experience of managing audit and delivery of unqualified financial statements.
- Proven track record of managing financial controls and risks in reporting and finance operations.
- Strong influencing skills, with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels and challenge perceptions and decision-making.
- Application of public sector financial reporting and management rules, including the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) and Managing Public Money.
