Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Operations and Settlements Associate to join our team at Barbara Houghton Associates. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of post-execution activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurate and Timely Execution: Execute and deliver client and bank payment instructions with strict cut-offs for major currencies.
  • Liaison with Financial Institutions: Liaise with banks, custodians, and other financial institutions on a day-to-day basis to ensure all trades, payments, and settlements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Query Resolution: Resolve queries received from sales teams and middle office in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Trade Booking and Matching: Ensure all trades are booked and matched in appropriate systems and captured timely and accurately.
  • Cash and Securities Processing: Ensure cash and securities instructions are timely processed and transmitted to custodians.
  • Trade Matching and Settlement: Liaise with traders, middle-office, counterparties, and custodians to ensure matching and settlement of trades.
  • Failed Trade Resolution: Monitor, investigate, and resolve failed, unmatched, or mismatched trades.
  • Daily Reconciliations: Perform daily reconciliations of securities and nostros cash accounts.
  • Client Reporting: Ensure accurate client reporting, including trade confirmations, monthly statements, and corporate action notifications.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 Years Experience: Minimum of 3 years proven experience in a payments or back office role for a financial services business.
  • Advanced IT Skills: Advanced IT skills, specifically MS Excel, preferably VBA and SQL.
  • Financial Knowledge: Knowledge in OTC financial products, Client Assets (CASS) rules, EMIR, and MIFID.
  • Financial Services Knowledge: Sound working knowledge of financial services, banking operations, dealer/brokerage operations.
  • Certifications: CISI – IOC Qualification or equivalent.
  • System Knowledge: Knowledge of Clearstream Xact platform, Euroclear, or similar system.
  • Asset Servicing Knowledge: Basic knowledge of asset servicing/corporate action processing.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Uses initiative and applies knowledge acquired to problem-solving.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-Tasking: Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Numerical and Organizational Skills: Excellent numerical and organizational skills.
