Job Overview

The Electrical Water Engineering division at AECOM plays a pivotal role in assisting clients with asset management. This includes a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from designing new treatment facilities to evaluating the condition of existing equipment and systems. Our engineers are essential in aiding clients to develop new assets or enhance current ones, focusing on improved efficiency and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify the necessary equipment and infrastructure for pumping and treatment systems.
  • Create detailed schedules and specifications for control panels and layout control rooms.
  • Calculate cable sizes and develop ducting networks for effective cable distribution.
  • Formulate control philosophies to define operational procedures for plants.
  • Collaborate closely with national power grids to secure new or upgraded power supplies.
  • Work in tandem with other design disciplines, particularly mechanical engineering, to ensure seamless integration of all design components.

Example Project:
A notable project involved the design of a wastewater pumping station as part of a housing development. This required an initial assessment of the hydraulic system to determine pump size and station capacity, working alongside contractors and local utility providers to optimize plant footprint while ensuring adequate operational and maintenance space.

Qualifications:

  • MEng in Electrical Engineering (2:1 or above, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Relevant work experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, strong work ethic, technical proficiency, ambition, and drive.
  • Basic computer skills (Word/Excel) are essential; good report writing skills are beneficial.
  • Experience with water-related modules is a plus.
  • Willingness to pursue professional qualifications such as IET & IMechE.
  • Proven interest in water projects.
  • Ability to meet client and business expectations while considering broader financial and commercial implications.
  • Effective communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks in collaboration with the team.
  • Capacity to work independently while maintaining initiative and focus.
