Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for a fixed-term position as a Senior Clinical Psychologist, contributing to the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) and Access Team. This role is pivotal in enhancing mental health services for children and young individuals.

The MyMind CYPMHS initiative is dedicated to collaborating with families and community resources to foster mental wellness through accessible and specialized support, aiming to elevate the potential and life opportunities of children and adolescents.

The MHST is part of a groundbreaking initiative supported by various health organizations, focusing on the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges within educational settings. The Access Team provides thorough assessments, formulations, and guidance for those facing moderate to severe mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities

We are in search of a Senior Clinical Psychologist who embodies compassion, trauma-informed care, and a commitment to enhancing the mental health of young individuals. The successful candidate will play a crucial role within the CYPMHS, offering robust clinical leadership and strategic direction in service delivery, in collaboration with Clinical and Operational Leads.

The role includes supervising an Assistant Psychologist within the MHST and providing mentorship to Trainee Psychologists.

Candidates should possess extensive experience in working with children, young people, and their families. A proven history of effective multi-agency collaboration, a deep understanding of relevant policies and legislation, and strong communication skills for engaging with stakeholders are essential.

The Senior Clinical Psychologist will oversee various clinical governance activities to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality services. Responsibilities include developing the CYPMHS workforce through clinical supervision, psychological consultation, and ongoing professional development. The role also involves participating in audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives to promote best practices and achieve positive outcomes for service users.

The position entails direct clinical work with young individuals and their families.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral-level training in clinical psychology, accredited by the BPS, covering models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in specialized areas of psychological practice.
  • Qualifications in supervision, mentoring, or coaching.
  • Leadership training experience.
  • Application of clinical psychology in diverse cultural contexts.

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Proficiency in complex psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialized psychological approaches relevant to a wide range of psychological issues.
  • Evidence of advanced knowledge and skills through postdoctoral training and continuing professional development.
  • Understanding of NHS structures, processes, and policies, with the ability to communicate complex policies effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying complex information to clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodologies and data analysis in clinical psychology.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development as required by HCPC.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with management theory and organizational change principles.

  • Extensive experience as a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Experience in specialist psychological assessment and intervention across various care settings.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse range of client issues with professionalism.
  • Experience in managing and supervising clinical psychologists and other professionals.
  • Involvement in policy and service development, with a focus on service improvements.
  • Experience in organizing and leading meetings.
  • Skills in managing referrals and contributing to strategic service development.
