Position Overview

The Community Neuro and Stroke Team is a dedicated group of professionals providing specialized support to individuals recovering from neurological injuries and strokes. Our multidisciplinary team includes experienced Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Nurses, Dietitians, Clinical Psychologists, and a progressive consultant in Neuro rehabilitation, all committed to enhancing patient care in the community.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with a strong interest in neurological and stroke rehabilitation. This role is ideal for those currently at Band 5 level seeking to advance their skills and knowledge towards a Band 6 specialist position. Our service offers a robust framework for learning and development to facilitate this transition.

An Enhanced DBS check will be conducted as part of the pre-employment process.

Key Responsibilities

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality interventions to patients with neurological impairments within the interdisciplinary Community Neuro and Stroke Team across various settings.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for patients with diverse neurological conditions, providing guidance and educational support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in the assessment and treatment of patients with complex and chronic conditions, determining appropriate clinical diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Manage a defined caseload, utilizing evidence-based and client-centered approaches to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide leadership and clinical supervision to junior staff as directed by your manager or professional supervisor, including mentoring students and Specialist Rehabilitation Practitioners.

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining professional and legal accountability for your work, including patient management and oversight of delegated duties to junior staff.
  • Conducting assessments using relevant tools, developing care plans, and setting goals based on prognosis.
  • Involving clients, families, and caregivers in the planning and prioritization of care.
  • Utilizing clinical knowledge to inform sound clinical judgment and decision-making.
  • Delivering therapy through individual sessions, group activities, and structured care plans.

Organizational Duties

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Maintaining accurate clinical records in accordance with national and local standards.
  • Adhering to professional guidelines and participating in service development initiatives.
  • Engaging in clinical audits and contributing to quality improvement projects.
  • Staying informed about current trends and research relevant to your practice.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • A recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • Relevant experience in managing communication disorders and dysphagia, as well as experience in multidisciplinary teamwork.
