Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist speech and language therapy services to multiply vulnerable young people with speech, language and communication needs and a diagnosed disability.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist speech and language therapy services to young people with complex communication needs.
  • Develop and implement highly specialist speech and language therapy treatment plans and evaluate outcomes.
  • Assess and diagnose communication disorders in young people and provide specialist advice to families and other professionals.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a young person-centred approach to treatment.
  • Provide training and support to other professionals and families on communication strategies and techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of local policies and procedures related to speech and language therapy services.
  • Participate in departmental research and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
  • Health Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice.
  • Substantial experience at specialist level in speech and language therapy.
  • Relevant experience with transferable skills appropriate to the area of clinical expertise.
  • NHS/UK healthcare experience.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and reflection skills.
  • Highly developed clinical skills in speech and language therapy.
  • Well-established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group.
  • In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
