Job Title: Lead AWS Platform Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Lead AWS Platform Engineer to join our team at Octopus Energy. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and automating the deployment of secure and scalable AWS infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and automation of AWS infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Own technical decisions to develop and manage the platform engineering roadmap.
  • Build and maintain robust and secure CI/CD pipelines.
  • Plan and implement solutions for backup and recovery, high availability, key management, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Solve platform problems with software, writing scalable, robust, and secure code in TypeScript.
  • Setup and maintain monitoring, metrics, and reporting systems for fine-grained observability and actionable alerting.
  • Lead a team of engineers, seeking feedback and growing skills as technical professionals.
  • Effectively communicate goals, expectations, and feedback to team members.
  • Work with delivery teams to ensure services adhere to the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Requirements:
  • Multiple years of experience working with AWS.
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Team leadership experience.
  • Experience in implementing and automating security best-practices.
  • Strong understanding of common AWS services to deliver end-to-end architectures and designs.
  • Proficient with DevOps methodologies, CI/CD, version control, and full-stack repeatability.
  • Experience working with infrastructure as code tools, such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and CDK.
  • Software development experience in TypeScript.
Desirable Skills:
  • Foundational networking knowledge, such as switching, firewalls, routing, and DNS.
  • AWS networking knowledge, such as VPCs, Transit Gateways, and multi-region environments.
  • Awareness of security processes and DevOps security tools.
