Hays Construction and Property is currently on the lookout for an experienced Quantity Surveyor - Pre-Construction to join their operational team. This well-established company operates across the UK and with the overwhelming growth and demand in the market, the company plan to deliver a wide range of projects in order to expand and build on their already prestigious project portfolio. With impressive builds and refurbishments across a variety of sectors including education, healthcare, public sector, leisure, residential, and hospitality, this contractor now has a requirement for a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing construction team and be responsible for managing their upcoming projects.

Your new role:

Reporting to the Commercial Manager and working closely with the Operational Team, you will be responsible for the cost estimating, tendering, delivery, and management of a variety of projects, as well as providing regular updates on the performance of ongoing projects valued up to £5 million.

  1. Carrying out the day-to-day administration of the commercial and financial aspects of projects.
  2. Close liaison with the Project Management Team(s).
  3. Preparing commercial performance reports.
  4. Contributing to monthly board reports via the Commercial Manager.
  5. Cash collection. In order to be successful in this role, you will have prior experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor at the pre-construction stage for a construction company or have solid experience and be ready to take a step into a more senior role. This role would require you to have strong negotiation skills to work with subcontractors and clients to reach positive commercial terms and minimise any commercial risks to the business. You must have good technical knowledge and skills in the construction sector and a good knowledge of commonly used contracts and frameworks. Ideally, you will hold a formal qualification in quantity surveying at degree level.

    Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

    1. A degree/HND or equivalent in Commercial Management/Quantity Surveying or other construction-related subject or substantial previous experience in a similar position.
    2. A commercially and contractually astute individual that takes ownership of performance.
    3. A proactive person with a disposition to take action pre-emptively to manage risk and opportunity.
    4. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
    5. Ability to deal with large amounts of data accurately and efficiently.
