About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Radiopharmacy Technical Officer to join our Radiopharmacy team at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Radiopharmacy team is responsible for manufacturing radioactively-labelled pharmaceuticals for patient use, performing in-process and final production checks, and maintaining a licensed manufacturing unit and its specialist equipment.

This is a dynamic team of approximately 30 members of staff, with a mix of roles, including pharmacists, clinical scientists, technologists, trainees, assistants, and administrative staff. We are a forward-looking team that encourages staff to develop themselves and offers training pathways as appropriate.

This role will require early starts, typically between 06:00 and 14:30, Monday to Friday, and may involve occasional changes to meet the needs of the service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake technical duties in the aseptic preparation of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles.
  • Pre-manufacturing preparation and final product checking will also be important to this role.
  • Specialist cleaning of aseptic production facilities and clinical areas used for radionuclide therapies.
  • Organisation of consumable items.
  • Performance of radiopharmaceutical quality control tests.
  • Working safely with radioactive materials.

Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • Vocational Qualification Level 3 or equivalent level, plus additional theoretical or applied training in a specific discipline to diploma equivalent level or HNC/HND or equivalent in a science subject.
    • GCSE or AS Level or A Level in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience of working within a technical or laboratory service to GMP or GLP guidelines.
    • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail while working under pressure.
    • Excellent manual dexterity in aseptic manufacturing.
