Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, United Kingdom NATIONAL TRUST Full time
Position Overview:
As a Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator, your role will focus on fostering connections with individuals and groups. You will play a crucial part in encouraging participation and ensuring inclusivity at National Trust locations.

Your responsibilities will include collaborating with volunteers and local communities, significantly contributing to the Trust's mission of preserving and nurturing spaces for both people and nature to flourish.

Work Schedule:
30 hours per week. The operation runs seven days a week, necessitating regular weekend shifts (approximately once every three weeks), along with some bank holidays and occasional evening work. Typical shifts are from 9 am to 5 pm and may be organized as fixed days or flexibly within a rota.

Team Dynamics:
You will be part of a vibrant and diverse property team consisting of staff and volunteers. Reporting to the Programming and Partnerships Manager, you will collaborate with a trio focused on events, programming, volunteering, and community outreach.

This innovative team prioritizes people, whether through partnerships, creating memorable experiences for visitors, supporting volunteers, or generating content for social media.

Volunteer Management:
Leading the volunteer experience for the property, you will closely collaborate with department heads and volunteer managers. Your duties will encompass everything from volunteer recruitment and onboarding to organizing social events and managing our alumni network.

We are initiating a program aimed at community and partnership development with local organizations, and you will be instrumental in establishing connections with potential partners.

We aim to engage with local educational institutions and community organizations, seeking out groups that share cultural ties to our nationally significant collection of historical artifacts.

Qualifications:
You should possess a solid understanding and experience in volunteer management principles and practices, demonstrating the ability to adjust your communication style to suit the diverse needs of your audience.

Additionally, you should be able to identify the key distinctions between staff and volunteer roles, particularly regarding legal frameworks, recognition approaches, and handling challenging situations.

As the landscape of volunteering evolves, we seek an individual ready to explore innovative and flexible avenues for community involvement.

Operational Responsibilities:
As part of the Duty Management Team, you will occasionally take on operational duties, ensuring the seamless operation of the property during open hours. This includes serving as the primary contact for staff, volunteers, and visitors in case of emergencies, inquiries, or complaints.

You will also be responsible for securing designated areas of the property and managing alarm systems upon arrival and departure. Further responsibilities can be discussed during the interview process.

Ideal Candidate:
We would be interested in hearing from you if you:
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Possess strong organizational, IT (Microsoft Office), and administrative capabilities, including meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of volunteer management principles and are enthusiastic about promoting the advantages of effective volunteer engagement.
  • Have experience in volunteer management and comprehend the differences between staff and volunteer roles, especially regarding legal considerations.
  • Excel in engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and understand the significance of volunteering.
  • Can work independently as well as collaboratively, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and productive environment for both staff and volunteers.
