We are seeking a Showbiz Editor to become a vital part of our team at Reach PLC.

We are eager to connect with a knowledgeable and passionate Showbiz Editor who possesses extensive insight into celebrities and popular television programs.

The ideal candidate will excel in managing daily coverage, enhancing audience engagement, editing content to a high standard, strategizing for significant events, and generating innovative and original ideas. They should also have a background in overseeing reporters, facilitating exclusive content, and responding promptly to breaking news in a dynamic environment.

You will play a crucial role in influencing and directing the narrative on topics that captivate millions globally every day.

This position is intended as a maternity cover and will initially be on a fixed-term contract.

We are open to flexible working arrangements and will strive to accommodate requests whenever feasible.

This role is primarily home-based with a connection to our London Hub, requiring a minimum of two days in the office. We are therefore interested in candidates located in and around London.

Role Responsibilities

What will your responsibilities include?

You will oversee the coverage of major breaking news stories within the celebrity realm, sourcing, crafting, and developing narratives that resonate with the audience of Reach PLC. You will edit and manage showbiz content to ensure it is precise and captivating, while driving daily coverage, increasing traffic, and reacting to significant news events.

You will mentor and guide the showbiz team to ensure that our content meets the high expectations of our readers. You will have the chance to plan for your team to attend exciting events on behalf of Reach PLC. Staying informed about pop culture, television, and celebrity news will be essential to maintain our competitive edge in securing exclusive stories.

This role may require weekend and evening work, necessitating a flexible approach.

Candidate Profile

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist and people manager with a NCTJ or equivalent qualification and a strong understanding of media law to ensure all content adheres to legal and IPSO standards.

You will be a confident and skilled digital media professional, ideally with experience at a national or regional level. You will effectively manage a talented and motivated team, providing support and direction in a high-pressure environment.

You possess a keen eye for stories and are prepared to make decisive choices, with the ability and personality to inspire and motivate your team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a deep understanding of the unique aspects of digital news, are essential, as is a genuine enthusiasm for breaking stories and presenting them effectively across various platforms.
