Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior News Editor to join our team at Reach PLC. as a Deputy News Editor. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping and setting the news agenda for millions of readers around the world every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct coverage on major breaking news stories, both domestic and foreign, to ensure the Mirror stays ahead of the competition.
  • Sub-edit and manage copy to ensure accuracy and attention-grabbing headlines.
  • Work closely with the news desk to develop and implement editorial strategies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of content across platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of media law and its application in a digital context.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in digital journalism.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a senior journalist and editor, with a strong track record of writing and editing breaking news stories at a national or major regional title.
  • Hold an NCTJ or equivalent journalism qualification, or relevant time served.
  • Excellent editing, writing, and subbing skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of what works for a digital audience and the ability to adapt content accordingly.
  • First-rate social media savvy and current SEO knowledge.
  • A bursting book of industry contacts and a strong network of professional relationships.
